Job Description:New York State (Other) The Cornell Cooperative Extension Rockland County (CCERC) Communications Manager is responsible for providing leadership for the development and implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy for the CCE Rockland County Association. This strategy includes working with educators on specific programs as well as event outreach and coordination and limited fund development. This position involves diversified duties requiring knowledge of marketing, public relations, and digital media. The Communications Manager acts as liaison to all media contacts, community organizations and partners. This position also serves as the Local IT contact assisting the Regional Lead IT Manager with Association’s IT tasks.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:Administrative Responsibilities: Direction-30%-Provide highly complex specialized administrative leadership in communication and marketing strategy for the organization. Develop shared Association vision, build understanding around the mission and develop appropriate goals and strategies to advance the mission internally and externally. Plan effective strategic external and internal communication efforts. Plan effective strategic marketing efforts. Plan mass media efforts related to all program areas. Develop and/or enhance relationships with appropriate agencies, organizations, industries, civic organizations, and community leaders for Association and programs through correspondence, presentations, responding to informational inquiries, and soliciting feedback on Association outreach efforts. Develop a brand awareness that aligns with the statewide Plan of Work. Develop good marketing strategies in the generation of an appropriate public image and support Association staff in attaining and promoting that image. Develop an Association marketing plan, keying in on successes, research initiatives, and flagship programs, including the design and layout of all printed and electronic materials representing the Association. Develop program communications and outreach budgets as needed. Collaborate in development of communications strategies for major Association events and functions. Management - 35% -Provide moderately complex administrative management support to the overall organization. Solve problems and conflicts that arrive in the operation of the marketing and public outreach area utilizing appropriate policies and procedures. May provide moderately complex administrative management of established educational program goals as related to communications and external outreach efforts. Provide highly complex specialized administrative tasks in guiding the implementation of communications and fund development strategies, activities, events, and communications budget, both program specific and association-wide ensuring all media and PR products comply with Cornell University Style/Brand Requirements, Association imaging/branding strategies and Federal compliance (EEO statements, etc.). Guide the implementation of mass and social media efforts. Guide effective strategic external and internal communication efforts. Manage effective strategic marketing efforts. Guide the implementation of a shared Association vision, building understanding around the mission and developing appropriate goals and strategies to advance the mission Manage program communications and outreach budgets. Guide brand awareness that aligns with the Plan of Work. May Provide moderately complex administrative management support to the overall organization and the CCE Board Development Committee. Manage marketing of Cornell Cooperative Extension appropriately in the various existing directories of organizations and agencies. Develop a simple donor database for updating by administrative staff and provide support and troubleshooting to administrative staff. Coordination/Operation - 30% - May provide moderately complex administrative tasks in implementing communication and marketing plans including, Annual Reports, Newsletters, Legislative Updates, Social Media communications (Facebook, Twitter, and Website), press releases, public relations and event marketing and fund raising marketing/communications. Support educator staff with design and layout of program brochures and fliers as well as general Association brochures and displays with Executive Director guidance. Ensure that social media content contains current and timely news and information. Act as production and marketing resource for staff. Maintain Association exhibits and provides coordination for displays and represent the Association at community events such as promotions, fairs, etc. Under guidance of Executive Director, serve as liaison with community organizations for marketing, event coordination, and communications. Maintain database of and network with media and marketing contacts to be informed of CCE programs and events. Act as Local IT support working with Regional IT Manager. Creative and innovative approaches to marketing a community-based charitable organization’s educational image and products. Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement and evaluate informal and formal marketing and public relations programs addressing diverse audiences. In-depth knowledge of marketing and media methods. Ability to work independently, make independent decisions, delegate tasks, manage multiple priorities and activities/events, and attend to details. Ability to organize workload, handle administrative detail, work under pressure and establish priorities according to Association requirements. Ability to display commitment to and enthusiasm for the mission of CCE. Ability to work as a member of team and maintain satisfactory working relationships with others including the public; excellent human relations skills. Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity. Ability to maintain a positive and professional appearance. Maintain a positive public image of CCE when dealing with clients, volunteers and committee members. Must be able to transport marketing supplies and equipment to multiple program sites. Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position. Demonstrated ability to create and maintain complex and unique databases. Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and weekends, as appropriate. Ability to identify, develop, and support volunteer involvement in public outreach efforts. Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
