Job Description: | The Day Opportunities Specialist (DOS) will assist each program participant to achieve his/her maximum growth through community-based activities. The majority of the DOS workday takes place in the community and involves transporting participants, overseeing volunteer activities at local organizations and teaching social skills, money skills, reading, computer skills, etc. using classroom lessons and role modeling. A DOS must exercise good judgement in organizing and prioritizing responsibilities and have strong problem-solving skills while working in the community with up to six participants per day. (Covid ratio is currently 1:3 participants) It is essential that a DOS establish a group atmosphere conductive to habilitation and achievement while at the same time accommodating the well-being and safety needs of each participant. This position also involves daily record keeping and frequent contact with family members, staff at volunteer sites, and individuals at other community agencies. Therefore, strong communication skills are necessary. |
Necessary Skills: | Excellent communication, organizational, problem solving, and leadership skills. The ability to be flexible and work independently. |
Necessary Certifications: | Training will be provided for CPR/First Aide certification. |
Position Qualification: | High School diploma or GED and one year related experience. Prefer 2 year college degree. Valid NYS driver’s license. |
