General Summary Of Duties:Provide professional, polite, clinical services in the operation of a medical office. Act as a patient advocate and support the mission of the practice by implementing clinical systems, which promote office efficiency and patient satisfaction. Greets, instructs, and directs patients and visitors. Provides information and services to the patient related events at the practice. Works in conjunction with providers, nurses and other staff members to ensure friendly, professional, efficient and viable operations.
Typical Physical Demands:Employee will need to handle multitasking in a fast paced environment. Work may require sitting or standing for long periods of time, some bending, stooping and stretching for files and supplies and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.. It is necessary to have the ability to restrain pediatric patients for treatments and medication or vaccine administration. Employee is required to have eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other minor office equipment. A normal range of hearing and eyesight is required to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and to work in an environment which may be stressful.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:• Maintain and protect confidentiality of patient information. • Greets all patients and visitors to the office in a timely, cheerful, understanding, patient, thorough, informative and professional manner, directing them to their appropriate destination and with the appropriate clinical and non-clinical information • Answer the telephone or return calls in a timely, cheerful, understanding, patient, thorough, informative and professional manner. Identify the name of the practice and person answering the phone • Take full responsibility and full ownership of work performed • Facilitate decision-making, conflict resolution and operations to enable the practice to achieve its goals • Approach problems with initiative, collaboration, a positive proactive attitude and creative thinking 1 • Communicate with others in a professional, mature, direct and timely fashion and establishes trusting, professional relations with others • Perform duties related to patient check in, check out and scheduling • Maintain a neat, pleasant, comfortable, professional patient environment as well as for all of those who work in this office • Conduct work with speed, attention to detail and correct prioritization • Schedule appointments as needed • Assist at front desk as necessary • Clean and restock rooms and equipment • Screen patients upon arrival - obtain appropriate history; vitals if indicated; have patient get undressed • Complete appropriate portion of school/camp form before Provider starts exam • Perform all aspects of pre-exam for well care - vision, hearing, blood & urine testing; PDQ's • Draw up vaccines for Provider & document lot numbers and vaccine source • Run rapid strep; mono and glucose testing (as ordered by Provider) • Nebulizer treatment; PFT's; Diopsys screening • Responsible for stocking of rooms • Medical Waste Management ( with lab supervisor) • Log refrig/freezer temperatures daily • Order supplies ( with lab supervisor) • Vaccine inventory/orders (with office manager) • Update referral list; typing documents • Maintain DME supplies and medications (with office manager) • Sterilize instruments in emergency room and check all equipment and 02 (lab supervisor) • Maintain office
Performance Requirements:Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • Ability to be punctual. • Ability to accomplish an acceptable amount of work within a given time period. • Reliability • Ability to communicate with others in a professional, mature, direct and timely fashion and to establish trusting relations with others • Initiative to solve problems • Patience to deal with individuals who might be uncomfortable, unpleasant, impatient, disoriented, lacking in certain motor skills, or individuals having memory lapses • Knowledge of organization policies and procedures • Knowledge of computer systems and applications • Knowledge of business office procedures 1 • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient information • Skill in operating a computer, scanning and photocopy machine • Ability to maintain confidentially of sensitive information • Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices • Ability to identify problems • Ability to communicate clearly • Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems. • Flexibility with schedule is required.
Education:High School Diploma required
Experience:Medical office experience recommended.
