Job Description:The Finance Department at the Eastern Territorial Headquarters seeks a Payroll Accountant who will be responsible for performing payroll-related functions for all Salvation Army officers (approximately 1,000 ordained ministers) assigned to Territorial Headquarters and the 13 Divisions (collectively, the “Units”) across the Eastern Territory. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, processing of payroll transactions, e.g., salaries, benefits, garnishments, direct deposit, taxes, and other deductions and distribution of all bi-weekly payroll-related reports to respective Units on a timely basis. UKG serves as payroll service provider and ADP serves as the payment fulfillment agent. Responsibilities: • Maintenance and timely processing of all payroll data, reviewing all pre-payroll data and post-payroll data for accuracy. • Responsible for the distribution of bi-weekly payroll cash funding requirements and payroll reports to all Units in the Eastern Territory. • Provide complete and accurate bi-weekly payroll journal entries to accounting staff to facilitate recognition in the general ledger. • Balance payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying, and resolving discrepancies and initiating journal entries, if necessary. • Handle a high-volume of inquiries from Units and officers regarding payroll issues in a timely manner. • Problem solve, analyze, and multi-task in a timely manner. Resolve payroll issues as they arise and implement procedures to mitigate future risks and errors. • Follow all proper procedures, protocols, approval processes related to payroll, personnel changes, allowance changes, deductions, etc. • Maintain and process inter-company system changes (classification changes, transfers, pay increases, medical leave, etc.). • Maintain and ensure proper controls for manual checks, voids, ACH, prepayments in accordance with company internal and 3rd party vendor processes (ADP Smart compliance). • Work closely with Tax Accountant on updating and reviewing of tax payments on a quarterly and annual basis and verify the accuracy of tax payments in the UKG payroll system. • Become a subject matter expert on the UKG system. Leverage technology to eliminate manual processes. Utilize mass uploads via excel and other compatible files. • Run standard and ad-hoc management reports as requested. • Maintain and update SOP for officer payroll procedural documentation as required. • Assist and back-up Payroll Manager in all phases of payroll and tax accounting as needed. • Work independently and effectively collaborate within a team environment and across the organization, to create a positive employee experience, by exhibiting strong company values and ethics. • Work on special projects and other related tasks as assigned by the Payroll Manager. • Manage sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality in accordance with company policy.
Requirements:• Bachelor's degree • Minimum of 3-5 years of high-volume payroll processing experience, preferably for a minimum company size of 1,000 • Must have strong knowledge of payroll principles, procedures, and regulations on the federal, state, and local levels. • Comprehension of not-for-profit accounting and taxation rules a plus. • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, strong skills in Excel working with complex formulas (i.e., pivot tables, vlookup etc.) • Knowledge of UKG/Ultimate Software and ADP Smart Compliance preferred All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.

Certifications:• Fundamentals of Payroll Certificate completed or in progress is desired
Salary Wage:$64K-$72K annually
